Location and item information

The checker does not require an account or street address. When you enter a ZIP code, the browser sends that ZIP to Zippopotam.us to obtain a likely place, state and geographic center, and may send that center to the U.S. Census Geocoder to identify a likely county or incorporated place. If you choose “Use my location,” your browser asks permission and sends the coordinates it provides to the U.S. Census Geocoder. Get BINformed does not receive or store those ZIP searches or coordinates in the current build. Your item search and selected collection program are processed in your browser.

ZIP centers and browser coordinates are used only to return the location result. Review the Zippopotam.us documentation and Census Geocoder documentation for information about those independent services.

Technical information when the site is hosted

Our hosting and security providers may automatically process ordinary request data such as an IP address, browser and device type, requested page, referring page, date and time, and security signals. This information may be used to deliver the site, prevent abuse, diagnose faults, and maintain security. Provider retention and handling are governed by their applicable terms and privacy notices.

Browser storage and offline support

A service worker may cache public site files on your device so the interface loads reliably. The current build does not save your ZIP, coordinates, disposal searches, or selected program in local storage. You can remove cached files through your browser’s site-data controls. If a consent platform is enabled later, it may store your privacy choices so the site can remember them.

Advertising and Google AdSense

Advertising is not active in the current build. If Google AdSense is enabled, Google and other advertising partners may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, device information and similar technologies to deliver, limit, personalize and measure ads, detect fraud, and produce reporting. Google’s advertising cookies may allow Google and its partners to select ads based on visits to this site or other sites.

Your privacy choices

Before ads are activated, Get BINformed will configure a Google-certified consent management platform where Google requires one, including for eligible visitors in the EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. The consent message will provide the choices required for that region. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or information about certain data, and to opt out of certain targeted advertising or data sharing. Contact us to make a request. We may need to verify it and may retain information where permitted or required by law.

External official links

Results link to local governments, facilities, and authorized program websites. When you follow an external link, that organization receives the ordinary technical information involved in a web request and applies its own privacy policy. Get BINformed does not control those sites.

Children’s privacy

Get BINformed is a general-audience information service and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly request personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.

Data security and retention

We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to this informational service, but no internet transmission or storage system is guaranteed secure. We retain correspondence only as long as reasonably needed for support, corrections, security, legal obligations, or dispute resolution.
